Dr. Mike J. Schoonover is a Professor of Equine Surgery and Sports Medicine at Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He received his DVM from OKState in 2000, followed by an internship in Equine Field Services at the Ohio State University. He then returned to OKState and completed an Equine Surgery Residency and Master of Science Degree in 2004. Dr. Schoonover was in private equine practice at Interstate Equine Services in Goldsby,OK for 8 years before returning to his Alma Mater as a faculty member in 2012. He is board certified in large animal surgery and equine sports medicine and rehabilitation. His clinical practice focuses on sports medicine and surgery of the western performance horse. His research interests include objective lameness evaluation modalities, regional limb perfusion techniques, and bovine sports medicine.
